Hey there, Franklin! If you’re interested in starting an amazing career in advanced manufacturing, then mark your calendar for a big event coming up. The SKY FAME Program, which has been making waves in our community since 2016, is hosting a Recruitment Night on Thursday, February 27. This event is not only informative but also geared up to help aspiring technicians find their path into a flourishing industry.
So, when and where is this happening, you ask? The recruitment night kicks off at 5 p.m. at the Franklin-Simpson Center, located at 175 Davis Drive. It’s the perfect opportunity to explore what the SKY FAME program has to offer.
You’re encouraged to bring along your parents or guardians, so they can learn about this fantastic opportunity with you. After all, getting support from family can make a world of difference in your decision-making process!
The Southcentral Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (SKY FAME) is a collaborative program designed to create a highly skilled workforce in our region. It partners with local manufacturers to provide students the chance to pursue advanced manufacturing careers while obtaining a college degree. And guess what? Many students can graduate with zero student debt—talk about a win-win!
Students enrolled in the program will attend classes at the Franklin-Simpson Center two days a week. But that’s not all! You’ll also need to work at least 24 hours a week at a local manufacturing facility. The program makes sure that while you’re learning, you’re also earning a competitive wage.
The curriculum is designed to give you a solid foundation in a multi-craft technical skill set. This includes crucial areas like electricity, robotics, fluid power, mechanics, fabrication, and industrial troubleshooting. By the end of the program, students will earn an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences in Industrial Maintenance Technology (Advanced Manufacturing Technician Track) along with over 1,800 hours of work experience—a pretty impressive resume booster!
Since the inception of the program, over 100 students have graduated and have found fulfilling jobs at one of the 25 manufacturing facilities that collaborate with SKY FAME. It’s clear that this program is making a significant impact on the local job market!
To sweeten the deal, there will also be some exciting door prizes at the recruitment night, including a 65” Smart TV and a Dell Laptop valued at over $800. Remember, to claim your prize if you win, you have to be there!
The community’s support for SKY FAME is growing by leaps and bounds. Recently, Delta Faucet Company showed its commitment to this initiative by donating $25,000 to help sustain the program and meet the increasing demand for skilled technicians in advanced manufacturing.
Additionally, Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems has stepped up, establishing a scholarship fund for students in the SKY FAME program. Scholarships are available to encourage participation, making it even easier for you to jump on board!
As if that wasn’t enough, students working at Sumitomo can expect to earn $14/hour in their first year and $15/hour in their second year while they complete the program—making it a truly beneficial experience.
If you’re ready to dive into the world of advanced manufacturing and kickstart a successful career, be sure not to miss the recruitment night for the SKY FAME program. It’s your shot at securing a bright future without the weight of student debt hanging over you. We can’t wait to see you there!
