Bowling Green Bids Farewell to a Beloved Community Member
Bowling Green is coming together to remember the life of a cherished local lady. Mrs. Thelma E. Brooks, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on December 1, 2024. Thelma was a well-known figure in the community, and her presence will certainly be missed.
A Life Full of Love and Family
Thelma was born in Edmonson County, a place that held dear memories for her. She was the lovely daughter of the late Allen and Aileen Graham Norris. Over the years, she wore many hats, but her most treasured role was that of a family member. She was the devoted wife of the late Arvil Brooks and a proud mother to her children. Unfortunately, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael A. Brooks, and her daughter, Linda E. Brooks. Her heart must have felt heavy losing them, yet her spirit remained strong.
Family bonds were paramount for Thelma. She is survived by two brothers, Ronnie Norris and Johnnie Norris (who is married to Amelia), as well as two sisters, Alma Herald and Peggy Tarry. The bonds she created extended to her children, encapsulated in the love and pride she showed for her four grandchildren, along with several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A Career Worth Noting
Thelma’s life was not only about family; she also enjoyed a respectable career. For years, she worked as a debt collector for IMC Credit. Her colleagues and clients knew her for her dedication and hardworking spirit, which she infused into everything she did.
Faith and Community
Mrs. Brooks held her faith close to her heart. She was a devoted member of the Missionary Baptist Faith. Her spiritual life provided her with strength and a strong sense of purpose, making a positive impact in her community. Thelma was involved in various charitable efforts, showcasing her warm heart and willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed.
Final Arrangements and Community Support
Thelma’s family has announced that her funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Friday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home in Bowling Green. Burial will follow at Hawks Cemetery, where she will rest peacefully. Prior to the service, friends and family are encouraged to pay their respects during visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home.
In keeping with her spirit of generosity, Thelma requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society. This request showcases her lifelong love for animals and her desire to support those who cannot speak for themselves. It’s a beautiful testament to her caring nature, and the community is rallying behind this request, ready to make a difference in her honor.
A Lasting Legacy
In a world where connections can sometimes feel fleeting, Thelma E. Brooks has left behind an everlasting imprint on the hearts of those who knew her. Whether it be through her family ties, her work, her faith, or her kindness, her legacy teaches us all the importance of love, community, and supporting one another.
As Bowling Green looks to the future, it does so while remembering a remarkable woman who made so many lives better simply by being a part of them. Rest in peace, Thelma. Your love will carry on through your family and the community you’ve touched.
