Bowling Green Students Enjoy Fun Fundraising Events

Bowling Green, KY – On a sunny Monday, October 21, 2024, students at Western Kentucky University (WKU) gathered in Centennial Mall for a pair of exciting fundraising events. The Alpha Tau Omega fraternity hosted a pie throwing fundraiser, while the WKU Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM) set up a dunk tank. Both events aimed to raise awareness about upcoming activities hosted by these student organizations.

Wacky Pies and Good Times

As the sun shone high with temperatures reaching up to 81°F, students lined up to take their best shot at throwing pies. Freshman Brody Greenwood was courageously armed with a pie filled with shaving cream, and he didn’t hold back when he threw it at fellow freshman Christian Speruta, causing laughter to erupt among viewers. This event was not only a source of fun but also a way for the fraternity to spread information about their upcoming haunted house.

Alpha Tau Omega, in collaboration with Phi Mu and AKA, will transform their chapter house into a haunted attraction this Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. Students are invited to experience the thrills and chills as they navigate through the spooky setup. During the pie throwing event, other participants like Caroline Shreve didn’t miss the chance to throw a pie at sophomore Ari Obando, getting into the spirit of fundraising and camaraderie.

Dunk Tank Fun

In another corner of Centennial Mall, students took turns at the dunk tank, with senior Molly Shannon holding her breath as eager classmates prepared to throw their balls. The dunk tank, a popular attraction that always draws a crowd, served as a fun way for BCM to promote their various campus ministries.

BCM hosts several events tailored for students looking for community and spiritual growth. There are freshman family groups that meet on Monday evenings, worship nights every Tuesday, outreach Fridays each week, and several discipleship groups available for all students. These engaging activities allow students to connect while contributing to their personal development.

Amidst the laughter and splashes, freshman Gabriel Arnold gleefully threw a ball that sent his classmate Alex Fejedelem plunging into the water. The sounds of cheers and splashes filled the air, making it a lively atmosphere. Another freshman, Jack Maniere, could be seen laughing heartily after managing to dunk his target on his very first throw.

A Successful Day of Fundraising

As the day progressed, numerous students took part in both events, creating a lively scene filled with joy and camaraderie. The dual fundraising efforts by Alpha Tau Omega and BCM showcased the spirit of community among students at WKU. With the haunted house event on the horizon, excitement continues to build. Students can look forward to a weekend filled with frights, food, and fun.

The warm weather and mostly clear skies added to the cheerful ambiance, making it a perfect day for outdoor activities. As the sun began to set and temperatures dropped to a comfortable low of 56°F, the students left with smiles on their faces, knowing they contributed to a good cause while also enjoying a Thursday of laughter and fellowship.

Overall, the events were a great hit, undoubtedly setting a positive tone for the upcoming activities at WKU.
